The formula

How to price a foreign patient

A patient travels when the savings, with flight and hotel already counted, are large and easy to see. These three numbers tell you what the patient saves, how many teeth pay for the trip, and how much you can charge.

1. Patient net savings
Savings = Σ(Phome × n) − [Σ(PMex × n) + Trip]

Trip = trips × (flight + nights × (hotel + daily spend)) + transfers. This is the number the patient compares before booking.

2. Break-even point
min n = Trip ÷ (Phome − PMex)

How many teeth make the trip pay for itself. A cleaning alone never gets there. A crown almost always does. That's why the full plan is what you offer.

3. Competitive price ceiling
PMex max = Phome × (1 − s) − Trip ÷ n

s is the minimum savings that gets the patient on a plane. For reference, dental tourism sources report real savings of 35% to 65%. Price above this ceiling and the patient stays home.

Each procedure's typical trip is spread across n units, using the region, flight and hotel above. A negative ceiling means that procedure only sells inside a bigger plan.

Where do you show up when that patient searches?

GetAReal.dentist lists Mexican dentists in English, with the cédula checked against the national registry, so US and Canadian patients can find you and confirm it before they cross.

Where every number comes from

Every figure has a source and a check date. Where there's no official source, the page says what was used instead.

United States

The national typical fee comes from the ADA fee survey (through published summaries) and the CareCredit cost list. There's no official dental price table by state, so each state is adjusted with the BEA 2024 regional price parity, downloaded from the official file.

Canada

Six provinces come from their 2025 or 2026 fee guide: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. Ontario, Quebec and Manitoba keep their guides for members, so clinic-published prices are used. Newfoundland and the territories are estimates.

Mexico

Prices published by private clinics, chains and Doctoralia across several cities, charged in pesos to local patients. Each procedure shows a confidence level based on how many data points back it. Exchange rates are live: Banxico's FIX as published in Mexico's DOF for the peso, and the Bank of Canada for the Canadian dollar; if they don't answer, the October 1, 2026 rates are used.

Travel

Flight and hotel are looked up live on Google Flights and Google Hotels for the origin, destination and date picked. The flight is the middle of Google's typical price range; the hotel is the median nightly rate at the level picked. If they don't answer, the fare saved on October 2, 2026 is used. Daily spend (meals and local transport) is a León reference.
